I find it interesting how pop culture from movies, television shows, and even reality television shows subtly seem to persuade their audiences to accept certain types of social norms. Sometimes it is not so subtle as well. As mentioned huge proposals are common in reality television, but it is also seen as parodies in movies and popular television shows. I think sometimes that theme is continuously repeated as it is known as classic romance.
Going forward toward the comment by Conan Obrien. Many comments
can be seen as offensive by many different types of audiences. I find it
interesting because these types of jokes and commentary are very common in
older movies and television. It is often a common joke of we can tell when a
movie and television show was filmed by the common jokes and words (politically
correct or not) that were used in the production. Often the creation of a similar
style of production depends on how well the previous one was received.
I find it interesting the uproar and controversy that Katy
Perry’s appearance on Sesame Street was not highly welcomed. I do not think
most children think of adults in the way that caused such a controversy. Most children
would just say they look like a prince or princess. Usually, their response is
similar to that. I think the controversy
is similar and comparable to how children are selected to act in popular rated R
movies that have strong adult language. Many times, the audiences is not as
upset that a child is present in those types of movies due to the realistic
quality of the situation in the productions. For instance, when one is out at
dinner with their family and the next table is a little rowdy using adult type
of language. Most likely the children that are present can hear their conversation.
In regards to the Simpson family television, I think it can be related to Stephen Sewell’s comments on consumerism. The Simpson has been around for many years similar to other adult related cartoon shows such as Family Guy and American Dad. These types of shows touch on and even offer satirical commentary on consumerism in one upping neighbors in buying bigger houses, college acceptance, luxury shopping sprees and luxury vehicles. Common themes are seen in all types of film video productions. There was even a movie called The Joneses that centered theme was consumerism and marketing. I will not spoil the movie, but I highly recommend it.
